Comprehensive evidence-based autism diagnostic assessment (with ADHD-screening) and report ($1700) - for women and gender diverse adults
Following extensive intake (including several questionnaires assessing ASD, camouflaging, ADHD, mood, trauma), the assessment is conducted over 1 x two-hour clinical interview, via telehealth/Zoom or face-to-face ($800). There is then an additional $900 for the comprehensive diagnostic report (inclusive of any supporting NDIS documents, if required), due approximately 2-3 weeks after the assessment, depending on the outcome. Total cost = $1700.
For those deemed suitable for NDIS support, a functional capacity assessment will be undertaken and included in the report (at no extra cost). An NDIS diagnostic letter to support your access request will also be provided, with detailed support recommendations, at no additional cost.
*ADHD-screening: If ADHD appears likely based on initial screening, executive functioning is explored in more detail, and the interview includes consideration of a potential AuDHD profile (co-occurring autism and ADHD). If ADHD is identified, detailed findings and professional impressions are included in your report, along with the names of recommended psychiatrists for formal diagnosis and ongoing management.**Unfortunately a Mental Health Care Plan does not cover the assessment of ASD. If you have private health, you may wish to enquire with your private health fund as to whether you are able to claim your assessment fees. Please contact your insurer about this as we are unable to provide direct advice as all health funds differ.
Important Information About Assessment SuitabilityPlease note: In line with the National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism in Australia, individuals with complex mental health histories - such as those involving psychosis, substance use, or multiple co-occurring conditions — may be better suited to a team-based (multidisciplinary) assessment rather than an assessment conducted by a sole practitioner.
If this applies to you, or if you have had extensive involvement with public mental health services for a combination of concerns, we kindly ask that you advise us of this prior to booking. This information will then be carefully reviewed by Dr Katherine Birt to determine whether her service is the most clinically appropriate setting for your assessment needs. In more complex cases, the guideline recommends a multidisciplinary approach.
Re-assessment of current functioning and supporting documentation for NDIS access requests - for women and gender diverse adults
For women and gender diverse adults diagnosed prior to the introduction of DSM-5 criteria, or those experiencing a decline in functioning, Katherine offers reassessment to clarify current support needs. This may also be appropriate where previous diagnostic documentation is insufficient for NDIS purposes, or where the original diagnosis was made by a clinician not recognised by the NDIS as a qualified diagnosing professional (e.g., a General Psychologist).
This process involves extensive intake including assessment of ASD and functional capacity along with a 1-hour clinical interview ($400). Pending the outcome, a report / NDIS support letter with detailed support recommendations is provided ($500). Total cost = $900.
