Dr Katherine Birt is a Clinical Psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Her current practice is dedicated to the assessment and support of autistic adults, specifically those who identify as women or gender-diverse. Her clinical expertise is grounded in research and informed by years of experience working with those whose autistic traits have been historically overlooked due to camouflaging, internalised distress, and non-stereotypical presentations.
Katherine has worked primarily in private practice and now exclusively sees adults who identify as women or gender-diverse, reflecting her deep interest and advanced knowledge in this area.
She adopts a neuroaffirming, trauma-informed, and person-centred approach, aiming to provide clarity, validation, and practical support. Her therapeutic work draws strongly on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a focus on building self-understanding, resilience, and sustainable wellbeing.
Katherine understands that many autistic individuals come to assessment or therapy after years of feeling “different” or struggling with burnout, anxiety, or identity confusion. She values a strengths-based perspective and is passionate about helping clients reconnect with their needs, and values - particularly after long periods of masking or misdiagnosis.
Before studying psychology, Katherine completed a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing and Literature. During her professional work in communications within the mental health sector, she completed her postgraduate psychology education, including doctoral research on relationships in autistic adults. She has continued to build her expertise in this area through both clinical work and ongoing professional development.
Outside of work, Katherine is a parent to three young children. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, stealing any moment of self-care she can, and engaging in the creative side of life with an interest in pottery and interiors. She brings warmth, insight, and authenticity to her work, and is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care for every individual she supports.
